I can’t tell you how relieved I am that they have nailed this sequel. I was so worried it just wouldn’t recreate the magic of the first one. I’m travelling to the US on Wednesday for something of a bucket list east coast train trip. I can’t wait to see it in Philadelphia on Memorial Day weekend. I thought for a minute there in 2021 we were never going get to see it. Now instead of Showcase Cinema Leeds, Philly baby!
Won’t argue with Rocky 2 being a great sequel. T2. Aliens, Empire Strikes Back are also brilliant and franchise make or breakers. And that’s what shows the strength of these films and the aforementioned Rocky 2 - they gave the franchise a right to carry on and paved way for more films.
I have to be honest I wasn’t initially interested in a Top Gun sequel but since seeing the trailer on the big screen I was convinced I had to see it.
I rolled my eyes at the usual "WOW" twitter first reactions stuff to be honest and just assumed it was the usual hyperbole so I'm surprised to see how raving the reviews are across the board! Really looking forward to it.
So glad you mentioned the age of Connelly. It’s a small detail, perhaps but something that Hollywood often gets wrong (casing a much younger love interest)

Tickets booked already! Greatest sequels of all time, Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, Terminator 2, and Kill Bill 2......is that a sequel, or just a continuance? Either way, better than the first one!!
Booked in for 4DX on Wednesday (couldn’t resist the idea of seats moving in sync with the planes!), so feeling it shouldn’t be a problem. 😉 Sounds like I may well feel the need, the need for a rewatch in IMAX!
My tickets are purchased for opening night at the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX in Los Angeles! You said biggest, ear rattling screen, and this is the only cinema that felt appropriate for an event viewing. xo
